Description: SMAP-29 is a 28-residue,
C-terminally amidated cationic peptide belonging to the cathelicidin peptide
family.This molecule is active in vitro at 0.25 to 4 ¥ìM concentrations against a
wide panel of bacteria, also including vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus
faecalis and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates, and several
fungal species, and is toxic to Cryptosporidium parvum sporozoites.SMAP-29 is
toxic in vitro to human erythrocytes, although at concentrations that are
significantly higher than those antimicrobial.
