Description: GLP-1 regulates glucose
homeostasis by stimulating insulin secretion, inhibiting glucagon release, and
delaying gastric emptying. Intravenous GLP-1 has been shown to increase insulin
secretion in response to elevated glucose levels and offers therapeutic benefit
for patients with type 2 diabetes. GLP-1 is of relevance to appetite and weight
maintenance because it has actions on the gastrointestinal tract as well as the
direct regulation of appetite.
